The official name of Thailand is The Kingdom of Thailand. It is in the heart of Southeast Asia, and shares borders with Burma and Laos on the East.

To its South lies the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and at the west is the Andaman Sea. It also shares maritime boundaries in the south with Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand and Indonesia and India on the southwest side of the Andaman Sea.

It is the world’s fifth largest country with a total surface area of approximately 513,000 sq.km. and it is the twenty first largest populated country in the world. The capital of Thailand is Bangkok, and is the center of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities. The population is comprised of approximately 75% ethnic Thai people, 14% people of Chinese origin, and 3% ethnic Malay people. Thailand therefore has a very colorful cultural heritage which makes it one of the best tourist spots.

This fascinating country has the longest reigning kingdom in the world, and has a constitutional monarchy. The ninth king of the House of Chakri reigned in 1046 and had the longest reign.

    Chiang Mai a city in northern Thailand is the capital of Thailand culture. It is here that all the richness and cultural diversity is most appreciated by tourists. Thailand people display their colorful attire, festivals and practice their religion with dedication. The main Thailand religion is Buddhism and is still practiced with much devotion to the gods.
